I feel like I've been waiting on this day for ages...well I have really but having AF pains so early in my cycle was worrying me. I don't need to worry anymore, it's now September and I can phone Little France as soon as AF shows...we're finally getting there, can't wait to get the ball rolling! :o)

CD 25 and step-daughter in hospital

>> Monday, 31 August 2009

My step-daughter went in to hospital today to have one of her fallopian tubes removed and have laser treatment on her cervix following an abnormal smear.

When she told me on Friday she was going in today we both had a good cry and I tried to reassure her that she'd be able to conceive naturally one day and if all else fails she could still under go IVF. She doesn't know about me and her Dad going for IVF soon (well neither I nor DH have told her..maybe DH's mum will have).

So she's to go to a fertility clinic in 6 weeks time to discuss her options but she was told by the consultant on Friday that if she wants to have kids in the future she'd better not leave it too late and recommended she do it within the next 2-3 years...she's only 23 this year!

I was joking with DH that he might end up coming to see his son/daughter and his grandson/grandaughter in the hospital at the same time...he wasn't pleased!! :o)

AF is definitely on the way, I'm hoping she holds out for another day or 2 so the clinic can't make me wait another month. I know they said I was to phone when AF showed in September but I'm thinking if I phone on the 1st of September they'll tell me to wait another month...we were told at our very first appointment at the clinic that they need to schedule the embryologists time and there was availablity for October....I know I'm stressing probably for nothing...deary me!! :o)

CD 23 and treated for scabbies!

Isn't there always something every month that you think "that could potentially stop me getting pregnant this month!"?

Well my DH was diagnosed with scabbies on Fri 28/09 and was told we'd both need to use the cream to treat it. So on Saturday night we covered ourselves in cream from head to toe and we've to do it again this Saturday the 05/09. The thing is, he's had this since December but didn't go to the docs until 3 weeks ago and it was first diagnosed as eczema and was using a steriod cream which obviously didn't work. In the months prior to him going to the docs he's tried Canesten (yes thrush cream!) and insect repellent...what a man!! Anyway, here's hoping the rash disappears now and he did ask the doc about using this with our upcoming IVF and he said it'd be fine.

DH also stood on a rusty nail last week so needs to go back to docs for a Tetanus jag and a Hepatitis B jag...who knows what effect they'll have on his little swimmers!! :o)

CD 22 and waiting on AF!

>> Friday, 28 August 2009

It's only CD22 and I'm stressing that AF will show up early.

She can't...I've already had a visit this month and I'm expecting to start my IVF when she next shows up but it needs to be September. It should be round about the 6th of September but I've had a few twinges, starting on CD20. The earliest AF has showed up before has been CD27 so I'm hanging on to the hope that she'll not come any quicker this month!

If she comes again in August I'm not sure whether my IVF will start or the clinic will make me wait until later in September...I'm stressing and I've not even started anything..oh deary me!! :o)

On the other hand I'm hoping that AF won't show at all and I'll be preggers so I won't need to go through IVF but my friends dog jumped up on me on Wed, right where I think my womb is and it was painful for a good hour afterwards... so who knows!!

Anyways, I've got a count down on my phone (sad I know) and it's showing 6 DAYS to AF (fingers crossed) x

This is going to be my blog where I'll tell my story as I try to conceive! As it's my blog I'm going to post everything about how I've felt about infertility and it'll be my place to get all my thoughts out of my brain and hopefully save things praying on my mind.

I hope to make a start on this soon as I know I'll benefit from getting it all out! :o)

So far...

>> Saturday, 1 August 2009

I have been trying to conceive since October 2007 and we've been diagnosed with UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY.

So far the journey has been:

September 2009:
AF arrived, I phoned the clinic and have an appointment for the morning of the 7th :o)

August 2009:
Awaiting AF so I can phone Little France and get the ball rolling. It might sound strange to some but I'm really looking forward to starting IVF. Obviously not having to do the injections and stuff but the fact that I will be so much closer to being pregnant! I'm thinking positively :o)

June 2009:
Appointment with Staff Nurse at Little France. Nurse explained the full IVF procedure to us again, took blood from us both to check for HIV and I was checked for Hepatitis (not sure which one) and Rubella (I think)! She also took my weight and height and gave me a number to phone once my period starts in September 2009. She also showed us the needle I'll be injecting myself with, luckily needles aren't a phobia of mines!

May 2009:
First appointment at Little France, met with a consultant who explained what IVF was and he told us the waiting list for IVF on the NHS is 3-4 years. He told us we had the option of self-funding and of course we jumped at the chance. So we got our names put on the schedule for an October 2009 IVF (although I'll be back at the clinic in September).

April 2009:
Received an appointment letter from Consultant at Little France, very puzzled as was told he'd not get in touch until September. Although I think this is because I phoned and asked about going private. Apparently they don't offer private IVF, they call it self-funding as it is an NHS hospital. So cancelled the Nuffield appointment as Little France is much easier for us to travel too, especially since hearing that I'll need to go to the clinic 3 or 4 times a week for scans. These scans are given first thing in the morning so hoping I can beat rush hour traffic...something else to worry about!

March 2009:
As I changed doctors from one NHS area to another, was told Forth Valley NHS couldn't help me with TTC. Was told by the Nurse at the Sub-fertility clinic in Falkirk that she was refering me to specialist at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Little France (NHS clinic) but would have to wait until at least August 2009 before he'd reply. Took matters in to my own hands and phoned private fertility clinics for prices and set up an appointment with Nuffield Hospital in Glasgow for end of April 2009.

February 2009:
Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) at Stirling Royal Infirmary. It did hurt (no tears though) and it was a very strange feeling. The female consultant doing the procedure helpfully told me "this is nothing compared to child birth!". Luckily though she was also able to tell me that both fallopian tubes were clear and looked perfectly normal.

September 2008:
First appointment at Sub-fertility clinic at Falkirk Royal. Was asked about cycles etc and was given an internal scan...wasn't expecting that! Consultant and Nurse both happy with what they saw! They took blood to check my hormone levels. Hubby handed in a sperm sample. Results came back good, everthing looks normal.

2005:
Treated for abnormal cells (CIN2) following a routine smear test. Part of my cervix was burned away but told it would not effect my fertility. All smears since have been clear, thank god!

2001:
Treated for chlamydia! Devastated as told if it goes untreated can lead to infertility. Although I wasn't ready to have kids, I knew I wanted to have them in the future.
